Our election day: The change is coming.

The Philippines is holding presidential elections on 9 May. Among the controversial candidates are the daughter of the country’s famous outgoing president, the son of a former president and a world-famous boxer Many Pacquiao.

When do the polls open, and when will the results be announced?

There are about  67.5 million voters who have registered for the May 9 election. In addition to voting for senators as well as provincial, city and municipal officials, Filipinos will also be electing a president and a vice president, who will each serve for the next Six years. Polling stations are open from 06:00 to 19:00 local time, and the results could be known just a few hours after they close. A total of 10 candidates are running for president.

Marcos, the leading presidential candidate.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. – With just days to go before the Philippine elections, he continues to retain a BIG LEAD over his closest rival — the country’s current Vice President Leni Robredo.

That’s according to the latest survey by independent pollster Pulse Asia which found that 56% of respondents favored Marcos, the son and namesake of late President Ferdinand Marcos.

Robredo, remained a distant second. She garnered 23% in the opinion polls which surveyed 2,400 people between April 16 to 21.

“There are many candidates, only two have any chance of winning: Bongbong Marcos, son of the Philippines’ longtime former president, and current Vice President Leni Robredo,” said Joshua Kurlantzick, senior fellow for Southeast Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations, an American think-tank.

Outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte, whose six-year term ends in late June, has not endorsed any of the presidential candidates — but his political party is backing Marcos, according to Reuters.

The leading Vice Presidential candidate.

Sara Duterte – The daughter of the current president, hardliner Rodrigo Duterte. She is running for vice-president alongside Bongbong Marcos. And they brand themselves the “Uni-Team” and have vowed to make the Philippines “rise again”.

While Ms. Duterte wants to make military service mandatory for 18-year-olds, Bongbong Marcos says he’s open to imposing the death penalty on criminals who cannot be rehabilitated. The said vice presidential candidate remain number one on survey since the first day of election period up to present.

MARCOS: The next logistics hub is Philippines.

Presidential aspirant and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. wants the Philippines to become the next logistics center in Asia to hasten the country’s economic recovery in a post-pandemic world.

Bongbong Marcos said he is pursuing a plan that will modernize the country’s existing seaports, airports, and railways aside from increasing their accessibility to other gateways. He added that investment in this key area will boost the nation’s import and export capacity thus giving opportunities for local industries to recover.

“Our strategic location in the Pacific (region) is an advantage that no other country has. It’s time for us to leverage this and aspire to become a major logistics hub in the region. To achieve this we will need to modernize our existing seaports, airports, and railways or build new ones where necessary,” Marcos said.

Bongbong Marcos also cited the surging popularity of e-commerce platforms among Filipinos as a strong indicator of the need to enhance the country’s logistics capability. He added that investing in port automation, computerization, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be needed to increase efficiency, prevent port congestion and redound to lower shipping costs.

Logistics in Manila
Logistics group throw support behind Marcos.

Like our company, various sea, air, and land-based transport groups have thrown their full support to the presidential bid of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who they considered the transport sector’s “best bet” in the upcoming 2022 elections.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez, who is also Marcos’s chief of staff and PFP campaign manager, assured them that while a continuing study is needed to resolve the very complicated problems in the transport sector, the presidential aspirant would come up with a clear and fair policy after extensive consultation with different stakeholders.

The said groups included Pangkalahatang Sanggunian Manila and Suburbs Drivers Association (Pasang Masda); Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP); Philippine Confederation of Drivers and Operators – Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (PCDO-ACTO); Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP); Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (ALTODAP); and Tiger in Asia.

“For me you should turn around and look at the past. Let’s look at the achievements of [the late] Pres. [Ferdinand] Marcos. We believe that BBM can do a lot for the country. Let’s work together for meaningful change because he can bring unification,” Pasang Masda National President Obet Martin said.

Heads and other officials of big transport groups met with PRP officials Gen. Thompson Lantion and lawyer Vic Rodriguez, Secretary-General and Executive Vice President, respectively, discussed integration with the party to formalize their support.
